Our Commitment to Supporting Women and Partnering with Green Rose Social Enterprise

TANYU tote bags are all crafted by the Green Rose Social Enterprise, a nonprofit organization based in Shenzhen, China.

Wanwan, the woman currently helping us produce Tanyun, is in her sixties. She was once unemployed but later learned sewing at Green Rose.

(Wanwan, 60+, once unemployed, learned sewing at Green Rose and now helps us make Tanyun.)

Green Rose was founded by female workers and has been serving women workers and migrant children for 8 years. In China's major cities, migrant women workers are often overlooked. Coming from rural areas, they find themselves isolated and exploited as frontline assembly line labor in urban factories. Many of these women dedicate their entire lives to factory work, only to be cast aside when they grow older or suffer from health issues due to the high-intensity labor. As a result, they struggle to find stable employment.

Green Rose provides a sanctuary for these women by organizing book clubs, literacy classes, exhibitions, and theater productions. The organization also supports victims of domestic violence and employs older women who find it difficult to secure jobs. Green Rose Social Enterprise allows these women to work with flexible schedules and share in the profits equally, transforming them from exploited factory workers into masters of their own time.

By partnering with Green Rose Social Enterprise, we hope to use the power of business to help provide employment opportunities for more marginalized women. Warawara will continue to support Green Rose and stand in solidarity with women.
